Complex neonatal conditions
The neonatal teams care for extremely low-birth-weight infants, babies with complications of prematurity, congenital abnormalities and newborns who are critically ill. Some children need respiratory or circulatory support; others may need surgery soon after birth. In these situations, neonatal intensive care and the appropriate paediatric surgeons may need to assess the child together.
Paediatric specialties and complex surgery
Specialist paediatric services assess congenital disorders, childhood tumours and other conditions that may require surgery. Children’s treatment plans must account for age, weight, growth and development as well as the disease itself. Anaesthesia and postoperative care also differ from those used for adults.
Obstetric and maternal–fetal coordination
Obstetricians, fetal-medicine teams and neonatologists can plan together when a problem is detected before birth and specialist treatment may be required immediately afterwards. This includes decisions about delivery, neonatal monitoring and referral into paediatric care.
Clinical practice and treatment decisions
Maternal medicine services assess high-risk pregnancies and pregnancy-related complications, while neonatal teams care for newborns who require close monitoring or intensive treatment. Paediatric cardiac, surgical and critical-care specialists may become involved when a baby or child has a congenital condition or severe acute illness. On the gynecology side, treatment may involve endoscopy or minimally invasive surgery for carefully selected patients. These areas overlap: maternal risk, fetal findings and neonatal capacity may need to be discussed before delivery planning.

The centre has been included in international-care initiatives, and earlier publicly supplied hospital data referred to several insurers offering direct settlement. Because that number may change and may apply only to particular products, no insurer or payment method is guaranteed in this profile. Families should clarify whether treatment is for the mother, fetus or child, which hospital campus is appropriate, whether neonatal intensive-care admission can be planned in advance and what documents are needed for a child patient.
Prof. Zhou Wenhao
Neonatal medicine and paediatric genetic disease
Guangzhou Medical University’s faculty profile identifies Professor Zhou as a paediatric and neonatal specialist working on neonatal disease and paediatric genetic disorders.
These are selected clinicians identified in public institutional profiles, not a live appointment or employment-status check. Their involvement in a particular case must be confirmed through the hospital.
